Trainium is Amazon Web Services’ first-generation custom chip designed specifically for training machine learning and generative AI models in the cloud. It provides improved price-performance compared to traditional GPU-based training, helping organizations reduce the cost of developing large models on AWS.
Its purpose is to make AI training cheaper and more scalable, while keeping workloads inside AWS’s compute ecosystem.
